We welcomed another new batch of junior infant boys and girls to the school on August 31st. They arrived in wide eyed, eager and looking immaculate in their new uniforms.
On Thursday, Sept 24th we witnessed a small piece of history when Lieutenant Mohan and Sergeant Kelly of the Irish Air Corps presented the school with our national flag and a copy of the proclamation. The children listened attentively as the Proclamation was read out and we all stood to attention as we sang our national anthem. You can see the full report and picture on our website www.scoilmhuire.ie
In September we had Fruity Friday – this is where all the children got to sample as many different fruits as possible at school. It was great to get the help of all the parents who helped with the chopping and serving.
Our footballers have been busy throughout September in the Cumann na mBunscol competitions. All three Scoil Mhuire teams have been in action. The junior boys’ team are unbeaten under new management of Messrs Kirwan and Neylon. Our senior boys and girls teams have both qualified for their Shield quarter finals. And our senior boys fared very well in the Lucan Sarsfields’ inter schools, winning the B final against Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada.
Future stars from senior infants are enjoying expert coaching with Lucan Sarsfields’ Johnny McCaffrey.
We held our annual All Ireland Football Final Forecast competition, and all the winners can be seen on our website. The proceeds from this will go towards purchasing sports equipment.
Our two 4th classes spent a very enjoyable morning in Lucan’s Presbyterian Church, where they put questions to a panel of Lucan residents who were their age in the 1940s and 50s. This was organised as a part of the Lucan Festival, and the boys and girls came back with a whole new appreciation for the ‘olden days’.
The Parents’ Association AGM will take place on October 15th in the school, and guest speaker will be international expert on education from New Zealand, Joseph Driessen.
Enrolment is now open for September 2016. You can read our Enrolment Policy on the website, and fill in the Pre Enrolment form there also.
And lastly, can parents who drive their children to school please be mindful of our neighbours. To ease congestion in the mornings and afternoons it would be really appreciated if parents could park outside the estate and walk in.
