Scoil Mhuire 2-1
Scoil Mológa 2-0
After shipping a heavy defeat in their first match, Scoil Mhuire needed a win here to get back on track.
After a nip and tuck first half, only a goal separated the teams at half time, and Scoil Mhuire were confident going out for the second half with the breeze at their backs. After sustained pressure at the start of the second half, the Lucan boys’ efforts were rewarded after ten minutes. A loose ball around the 13 metre line seemed to pose no danger but Eoin Mahony pounced on the sliothar in a flash, lifted it into his hand and before you could say “Henry Sheflin”, Eoin had driven the ball low and hard beyond a helpless keeper for the equalising goal.
Scoil Mhuire kept up the pressure, but in a breakaway attack, Scoil Mológa regained the lead when a shot was deflected past keeper Dylan Knowles, who had no chance.
With 5 minutes left on the clock, Scoil Mhuire looked dead and buried but were awarded a 65, needing a goal to draw level. Charlie Keher floated a beauty towards the goal and an unfortunate defender deflected the sliothar into his own goal.
Into injury time, and most teams would have settled for a draw; but the Lucan boys were not satisfied.
Deep into injury time Lucan were awarded a free in about 35m from goal.
Up stepped the smiling assassin, Charlie Keher, to calmly slot the ball over the bar and steal victory from the jaws of defeat.
Apart from those already mentioned, Scoil Mhuire had heroes in Cian Buckley,Kingsley Okakpu, Ben O’Toole, Luke Finnerty and Conall Chambers.
Special mention to Philip Kane, who played heroically, despite not being fully fit.
Ronan Keher will be conducting another coaching session on Tuesday from 2.40 to 3.30.
The fruits of his labour were there to be seen in last Thursday’s performance.
Mr Ellis was heard mumbling something about feeling like Rafa Benitez, but he refused to go on the record when Scoil Mhuire TV requested an interview.
THERE WILL BE NO SENIOR HURLING GAME OR CAMOGIE GAME THIS WEEK, AS 6TH CLASS WILL BE MAKING THEIR CONFIRMATION ON THURSDAY.
