Hard luck and well done to our gallant senior hurlers who lost out in their shield semi final to an excellent team from Scoil Bhríde in Foxrock. The better team won on the day but the Scoil Mhuire players never stopped trying and were rewarded with some fine late scores. In fact we opened the scoring in the second minute with a well struck free from Charlie Caseley which found the back of the net. However the Foxrock school soon took over and dominated the rest of the first half. The second half was much more even and Gareth Kennedy and Alex Hickey chipped in with a couple of lovely scores. The final whistle brought disappointment but an acceptance that the better team won. Charlie Caseley played a captain’s role throughout and never gave up . Eoin Mahony was excellent in goal and Ben O Toole and Robert Hazley were heroic in defence. Aaron Meaney recovered from a heavy knock to play a blinder and Brendan Ruddy and Stephen Mc Inerney played their hearts out. Niall Higgins showed some lovely touches when switched to the forward line.
Best of luck to Scoil Bhríde in the final in Croke Park.
