The senior gaelic football season is underway already and 21 Scoil Mhuire lads represented the school in the Lucan blitz and our first Cumann na mBunscol game.

The Lucan Blitz turned out to be a mixed bag in terms of results with Scoil Mhuire winning 2 and losing 2 on the way to their final against Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada. The boys battled well in the monsoon like conditions and this never say die attitude lead to victories against St. Mary’s BNS and Lucan ET after suffering defeat to both Scoil Áine and Gaelscoil Naomh Padraig. Unfortunately The Airlie Heights lads lost their final in a low scoring affair but they can all be proud of their performaces.

The players who lined out on the day were:

Sam Colclough, Niall Higgins, Charlie Byrne, Aryan Rawat, Jack Hyland, Killian Gormley, Max Hennessy, Kevin Gormley, Robert Keher, Gallas Kabana, Daniel Kane, Gareth Mc Donnell, Titas Dubinskas, Alex Turley, Fionn Buckley, Alex O’ Toole and Lee Brazil

Players of the tournament were Sam Colclough and Jack Hyland.

Scoil Mhuire 4-7

Lucan ET 3-2

Scoil Mhuire got back to winning ways against a resilient Lucan ET side in Lucan Sarsfields on Thursday afternoon. We played some beautiful free flowing football in the opening half which saw us lead 3-7 to 0-0 at half time. Sam Colclough was picking out his team mates with every kick out and our full back line of Niall Higgins, Aryan Rawat and Jack Hyland were snuffing out any ball which made its way into our 21.

Wing backs Robert Keher and Gallas Kabana were bombing forward at every opportunity which produced an overlap for our strong midfield pairing of Max Hennessy and Kevin Gormley. Our captain Daniel Kane acted as the anchor in defence and swept up everything in the half back line.

Gareth Kennedy scored 1-3 of our first half tally and James Foley sprayed the ball around beautifully in the playmaker role. Tommy Mulhall offered balance on the far side as he worked his socks off and tagged on a couple of points.

Our full forward line of  Titas Dubinskas, Fionn Buckley and Alex Turley tormented their opponents with great movement.

However, Lucan ET must have been given an inspirational team talk at half time as they came out and scored 2-2 without reply. Scoil Mhuire needed fresh legs and Sam McGeown, Alex O’Toole and Edward Nabulele provided this. All three played excellently and really impressed Mr. Kirwan. James Foley blasted home an insurance goal before Lucan ET added a third just before full time.

Players of the match: Gareth Mc Donnell and James Foley.

Well done to all the lads. Training Tuesday at lunchtime.
