After qualifying from their heats in Lucan Library Scoil Mhuire’s quiz team of Eoghan, Eoin, Jessica and Jack travelled to the county library in Tallaght for the finals of the South Dublin County Council Libraries Quiz.

A large number of schools, big and small, were at the event but Scoil Mhuire were among those setting the early pace, sitting in joint second place after two rounds. However the competition was fierce and only a couple of points separated the top seven or eight teams. At the halfway stage Scoil Mhuire had secured 37 correct answers out of a possible 40, bested only by two other teams who were jointly in the lead on 38.

Unfortunately a slip in Round 5 and another in Round 7 sent us a little further down the pecking order. Going into the final round three teams were on a score of 71 while we were next in line with a score of 68. The final round was a very difficult one and proved a little too tough for our team who slipped a further place but finished a very credible 5th out of approximately 20 finalists, some of whom came from very large senior schools.

The top three teams were awarded prizes for their school but no child left empty handed and got a book to take home. The top three were: Ballyroan Boys NS, St. Colmcille’s, Knocklyon and St. Mark’s, Tallaght
