Scoil Mhuire’s senior hurlers had a fantastic victory in their Shield semi final yesterday (Thur, Apr 19) at a sunny Tymon Park against Holy Cross NS, Dundrum. The first five minutes were scoreless with both sides sizing each other up. Then Seán O’Reilly burst onto the scene and broke the deadlock with a well taken goal. Charlie Keher then went on the rampage with 3 exquisitely taken points from play. The opposition were never let get into any rhythm, mainly due to tenacious defending from Dylan Knowles and Cian Buckley in a backline well marshalled by Eoin Gormley who is just back from injury. At midfield Adam Stanford was as solid as a rock, and captain, Eoghan Gately led by example by launching attack after attack from midfield. We kept Holy Cross scoreless throughout, and in the last 10 minutes many of our 4th class debutants came on giving manager, Noel Ellis selection headaches for the final in Croke Park, amongst these was Conall Chambers who scored a goal from 30 metres into the roof of the net. Everybody played their part, and the school is now looking forward to a first Croke Park appearance since 2006. Scoil Mhuire Abú!
