A great night was had by all last Friday in the Lord Lucan. Approximately 120 people turned up to support our Parents’ Association annual quiz. Mr Roche set the questions which were varied, testing and very entertaining. A tie-breaker was required to separate the three teams which finished level at the end of the quiz. Apart from prizes for these three teams, a lot of people went home very happy with their spot prizes or raffle prizes. Over 40 prizes were won in the raffle. All of these prizes were donated by local shops, businesses and individuals, and we are very grateful for all the community support we received. While a lot of raffle tickets were sold in the Lord Lucan on the night, a lot more were sold during the week in school. We would like to say a big thank you to the boys and girls from 6th class who manned (and womanned !) the sales desk in the foyer during the week of the parent teacher meetings. You did a great job and many compliments were paid by parents in this regard.
A total of €2200* was raised between the quiz and the raffle. This is a record for a Scoil Mhuire quiz and it is a testament to the Trojan effort put in by the members of the Parents Association over the past few months. An event like this doesn’t just happen. The parents spent a lot of time gathering up spot prizes and raffle prizes and the quality of these prizes was there for all to see.
Thanks to everybody who turned up on the night to support the quiz. While the event is a great fundraiser, it is also a great social occasion where parents, teachers and everyone associated with the school can meet up in a casual, light hearted environment.
Thanks also to those who couldn’t make it along on the night but who showed their support by buying raffle tickets.
A big thank you too to the staff and management of the Lord Lucan. As well as providing us with a lovely venue, they laid on excellent food and donated prizes to the raffle and quiz.
Just a word on the homework passes. Their expiry date is June 2024 so make sure they’re used before then!
* The money raised by the Parents’ association in all their fund raising ventures over the years , is always put to good use. For example, during the past year , the PA has provided funding for our new electric piano. our new sound system in the hall and the cost of travelling to Croke Park to support our camogie team in May was subsidised. There will be plenty more worthy causes to be funded over the next few months.
