Scoil Mhuire Newsletter, December 2014
December has been dominated by drama in Scoil Mhuire – every possible variation on a Christmas theme was put on stage by all the classes. And for the first time this year we had plays “as gaeilge” . It’s amazing what the creative Christmas spirit can do in a school! If you go online you might get to see some of the shows on www.scoilmhuire.ie.
Have a look at The Echo newspaper for Thursday, Dec 18th – you will see some nice pictures of Ms Walsh’s 1st class play. And if you were reading that same paper in the first week of December you would have seen a 2 page spread all about our school in their ‘School Around the Corner’ weekly feature. And in this article we were credited with singing on the Late Late Toy Show – as much as we would like to say nothing and take the praise, we have to say well done to the other Scoil Mhuire in Lucan – the girls’ school in St Mary’s Parish.
We finished the term on Friday with our annual Carol Service, and a visit from a special man in a red suit.
The Parents’ Association hosted a very successful cake sale. Over €1,000 was raised and it was a great opportunity for parents to drop in and chat over a coffee or tea.
The inaugural Countdown Challenge was won by Ciara Fleming in a very tense final, and the indoor 3rd/4th class hurling final was won by Charlie Byrne’s team, while the camogie final will be contested by Méabh Egan’s team and Christine Okakpu’s team
Ms Morgan’s 6th class were thinking of the less fortunate – they collected money and made up hampers for the local Vincent de Paul.
Enrolment
Application for enrolment in Junior Infants in September, 2015 has opened. A pre enrolment form can be downloaded from our website www.scoilmhuire.ie. Please consult our Enrolment Policy before applying – this can also be viewed on our website. At this stage, there is no need to enrol siblings of children in the school – a text will be sent to all families in the second week of January asking for siblings’ applications.
Parish News
Christmas Eve 5 p.m.: Away in a Manger – A Nativity Service
Families with young children are invited to a Parish Crib Service in St Patrick’s Church. The Service will tell the story of Jesus’ birth with Christmas Carols. This is not a full Mass with Holy Communion and may be more suitable for some families. It is a reflection on and celebration of the story of the first Christmas.
Christmas Eve: Children’s Mass at 6.30 p.m.
The staff of Scoil Mhuire would like to wish all of the children and parents a very happy Christmas, and we’ll see you all again in 2015 on Monday, January 5th
