Our GAA season came to a close on Tuesday and Wednesday, 16th and 17th of June, when our senior mini leagues were played off. The group stages , which were played on Wednesday in the spacious surroundings of Lucan United’s pitches, were fiercely competitive with a lot of tight finishes . By the end , Limerick and Tipperary had qualified for the Girls’final while the mighty Kerry were pitched against the unfancied Kilkenny footballers.
On Thursday, Limerick, driven on by Ellie Wisdom and Carla Wynne , and captained superbly by Abbie Delamere, proved too strong for Tipperary , for whom Ella Murtagh showed great leadership and Kiaya Lynch played a blinder.
In the boys’ final, the game was played at a frantic pace and the level of skill was fantastic. Kerry, captained by Seán Lovett finished 10 points clear of a brave Kilkenny side , captained by Robert Hazely . The scoreline is a bit deceptive however as Kerry keeper Reece Lamphiere sent out a warning to Stephen Cluxton, with a string of incredible saves to prevent Kilkenny from closing the gap.
Many thanks to our past pupils, Niall O Keefe, Áine Keher, Charlie Keher, Seán Egan, Phillip Kane and Ben O Toole for refereeing and umpiring at the junior and senior leagues. Thanks also to the boys and girls from 6th class who helped to mark out the pitches, erect the goalposts and sort out the jerseys . Medals will be presented next week along with the Player of the League trophies.
