It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of our beloved secretary, Marie. I know you join with me, the staff and Board of Management in expressing our sympathies to Marie’s son and family.
I am sure a lot of you are aware Marie has been battling illness since last year. She fought it bravely, but sadly, she lost that fight last night.
Marie was an integral part of Scoil Mhuire for nearly 20 years. She epitomised our inclusive approach to our children and families. She was simply known as ‘Marie’ to the hundreds of children who started in Junior Infants since the late 90’s, and she stopped many children’s tears, bandaged quite a few cut knees and calmed many an upset child who was brought in from the yard or PE after a fall or collision.
As a colleague we will miss her warmth and her wit. She was quietly efficient in her work, and was always amenable to our requests, no matter how outlandish. When all around her might be losing their heads, she was keeping hers, exerting a calming influence on proceedings.
As much as we will feel her loss, it is nothing compared to the grief being felt by her son and family right now, and they are in our thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
I will post the funeral arrangements when they become available.
When the school reopens after the mid term we will gather the children from 1st to 6th class to explain to them that Marie has passed away. We will light a candle in her memory, and say prayers for her.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.
