Scoil Mhuire senior hurlers had a very productive day on Friday 14th March at the annual Lucan Sarsfields hurling blitz for schools in Sarsfields’ catchment area. Our team won the B final to set themselves up nicely for the Cumann na mBunscol season which gets underway this week. Having beaten Divine Mercy, Balgaddy and Scoil Áine B in their opening group matches, Scoil Mhuire faced up to St Mary’s BNS in their final group game to see who would qualify for the A final. In a classic encounter, the teams finished level at two points each, with Scoil Mhuire being denied of victory at the death by a miraculous save from a BNS defender which stopped the sliothar from clearing the crossbar. With scoring difference deciding the group winners, BNS quaklified for the A final but they sportingly agreed to play extra time to decide the outcome. BNS came out on top after ten nerve tingling minutes and Scoil Mhuire qualified for the B final. In the B final , despite scoring eight lovely points, we were hanging on at the end against Scoil Áine A who scored two goals on the break to set up a thrilling finish. In the end, Scoil Mhuire held on to claim the B title.
It’s all systems go now for our first league match against Holy Family Rathcoole in Lucan on Thursday 27th.
