Scoil Mhuire: 6-6

Divine Mercy: 0-0

Our boys junior football team got off to a flying start in their opening league game in a local derby against Divine Mercy, Balgaddy. The first few minutes were nip and tuck before Robert struck our opening point to settle things down. Divine Mercy found it hard to break out from beyond on their own goal as Scoil Mhuire laid siege scoring points from Gareth, Sam and Robert before Harry Watkins hammered in a goal on his debut.

As the half wore on Divine Mercy were able to break out and cause us some nervous moments but the danger was repeatedly snuffed out by our defenders with Zach and Adam from 4th class really impressing. Sean T added our final point of the half and we went in 3-4 to no score up.

The second half began in much the same way as the first with some early scores from Sean M and a stunning goal from defender Adam. Divine Mercy got their first direct shot on goal after a couple of minutes but a save from goalkeeper Sean D and a follow up block from Darlington kept our Lucan rivals off the score sheet. A few more scores made the result beyond doubt and Scoil Mhuire ran out comfortable winners.

Our next match is on Tuesday against Clonburris on the juvenille grass pitch in Sarsfields Park. We’re looking forward to it!
