Every year there is an anxious wait for the parents of children in 5th class to see if they have secured a place in 1st Year in Lucan Community College. This remains the most popular 2nd level school for families in Scoil Mhuire, but unfortunately due to pressure on space a lottery takes place, and every year our pupils do not have a guarantee of gaining a place. However, there have been plans for many years for an extension to Lucan CC, and this would mean that they can increase the number of places offered every year, and as a consequence, more children from Scoil Mhuire will go to their nearest and first choice secondary school. But every year the extension plans seem to be delayed. This is not the fault of LCC management, but due to inaction by the Department of Education and Skills, and the minister.

The best way for your voices to be heard is to lobby our local elected representatives, in particular our TD’s. Within the next 12 months they will ask for your vote in a General Election. Between now and whenever that date is, every parent, from Junior Infants up, who wish to send their child to their local Community College, should email, write to , phone or text asking if they can give a guarantee to the parents of Lucan when the extension to Lucan Community College will go ahead.
