This week Dean, Mark, Rachel & Cian represented the school at the Eircom Junior Spider Awards that took place in Google’s Headquarters in Dublin. The awards recognise excellence in digital learning and ICT across primary and secondary schools. Schools and individuals were nominated for creating computer games, creating a website to help farmers and for creating excellent apps, blogs and websites.

In the Primary school or Mega Spiders section there were three categories: Best Project, Best Blog & Best Website. We were nominated in the Best Website section. This category was won by a two teacher school in Galway called ‘Gortskehy National School‘. The Best blog category was won by St. Peter’s Primary School in Bray and the Best Project category was won by St. Ibar’s National School, Clohamon for their project ‘These Boots Are Made For Walking‘. St. Peter’s Primary School in Bray also won the Overall Primary School Grand Prix for their blog, which is really, really good.

Despite not winning the award, it was a terrific occasion for the children. Google had set up stalls and exhibitions ranging from a reptile zoo to a demonstration on the use of technology with the Irish Rugby team. The awards themselves were presented by RTE’s Aidan Power and a warm-up comedian/Ireland’s only sword swallower called Jack Wise kept us all entertained.
