Christmas Newsletter December 2013
Newsflash !!!!
We have just been told that we are currently lying in third place in the 2013 Edublog Awards for best use of Video and Media in Education with our Scoil Mhuire TV section on our school website. A huge congratulations to Mr Roche and to all the children who have worked so hard to make the school website so attractive and so easy to negotiate.
Plays and Carol Service
The last two weeks before the holidays have been pretty frenetic in school. A huge thank you to all the parents for your help in preparing the children for their plays and the Carol Service. The true Christmas spirit of co-operation and kindness was very much in evidence as children, parents and all the Scoil Mhuire staff worked together to help make it a very special time for all.
A time for Giving
The Christmas spirit was also in evidence in the generosity of people as over €500 was collected for people affected by the natural disaster in the Philippines, at the Parents’ Association cake sale .Ms Morgan’s class presented the Society of St Vincent de Paul with five beautiful hampers to be distributed to needy people at Christmas.
Keeping Active
With the encouragement of Ms Morgan’s class and the green school’s committee, there has been a great response to our “Walk to School “ campaign. Our recent WOW (Walk on Wednesday) was a great success with over two hundred children (and parents!) taking advantage of the fine weather to get in some very healthy exercise. Well done everybody and keep up the good work. There are skipping ropes on sale in the school at a cost of €4. They are a great way of keeping the children entertained and active at break time.
Building
After nineteen months, our building programme is now complete. They have done a wonderful job and have left us with a beautiful new structure, which hopefully will provide a very happy learning environment for years to come. After Christmas there will be some changes to the access routes and we will inform you in full about these in the New Year. We have also regained a lot of yard space so the children will have more space for their break time.
Dogs
Just a reminder that dogs should not be brought onto the school premises. Please co-operate with us in this regard.
Highlights
Some of the highlights of our first term were
Maths Week-where children went out and about exploring practical maths in their school and local environment.
