St. Partick’s Drumcondra 1 – 1 Scoil Mhuire (AET)

*St. Patrick’s won 8-7 on penalties

Those in attendance in Drumcondra were treated to a fantastic game of football on Thursday afternoon! Unfortunately Scoil Mhuire came out on the wrong side of things but it really could have gone either way.

St. Patrick’s started the brighter of the two sides and their striker converted the opener with a neat finish after 10 minutes. Scoil Mhuire showed great character to get back into the game and Adam McNulty, who was brilliant all game, won a penalty after he was chopped down following some brilliant skill. Calum Byrne stepped up to confidently slot the penalty which left things level going into the break.

Aaron Geoghegan had been as safe as ever in the first half and actually didn’t have much to do thanks to his well organised defence of Emmet Kelleher, Adam & Jamie Harrington and Krish Rawat.

The second half was end to end with both sides enjoying periods of dominance. Zac O’Sullivan, Noah Shiels, Sam Kennedy and Sean Murphy really impressed in this half hour.

Playing on a heavy pitch was taking its toll on the players and our subs Matthew McEvoy, Cillian Gamble, Sean Coleman and Cian Moran made the impact we needed heading into extra time.

The game was still deadlocked after extra time so the game had to be decided on penalties. After 11 penalties each St. Patrick’s came out on top but the Scoil Mhuire lads can definitely hold their heads high after playing their part in what was an outstanding game.

A special mention to Aaron Geoghegan who produced one of the best saves you’re likely to see in the penalty shoot out.

Man of the match: Noah Shiels

Well done to all involved and best of luck to St. Patrick’s in the remainder of the competition.
