St. Francis Xavier – 1
Scoil Mhuire – 3
Well done to the boys soccer team who got back to winning ways in their second league game. The game was played on St. Brigid’s parish field, Blanchardstown in the sunshine on Wednesday afternoon and all spectators were treated to some fantastic football.
Our two men of the match, Adam and Jamie Harrington, set the tone early on with some brilliant defending to keep out the threatening St. Francis Xavier striker. This seemed to breed confidence throughout the team and our midfielder’s of Calum Byrne, Noah Shiels, Seán Murphy and Zac O’Sullivan started to knock the ball around nicely.
On 10 minutes we won a free kick at a very acute angle. Most players would look to pick out a man in the box but Sam Kennedy had other ideas. He shaped to cross it but instead rifled the ball to the top corner past the helpless keeper.
On 20 minutes, after some great build up play from Emmet Kelleher and Noah Shiels, Calum Byrne found himself one on one with the keeper and made no mistake to double the advantage.
Scoil Mhuire fell asleep for the last 5 minutes of the half however and Francis Xavier pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time.
The next goal would prove to be crucial and thankfully Scoil Mhuire got it through Noah Shiels after some brilliant defending and counter attacking from Krish Rawat and Cathal Conway respectively.
Well done to all involved!
