It was finals’ day on Tuesday 12th March as six weeks of hectic activity came to an end.
Both finals were thrillers , with the result in doubt right up to the final whistle.
Girls
Blue Tangerines 6
Dangerous Divas 3
This was a bit of a surprise result as the Divas had swept all before them in the run up to the final.
With Eyum playing a captain’s part and with Abby Delany and Katie Wisdom playing at the top of their game, this was a well deserved victory.
Abby Shiels, Ellen Shumba and Chi Chi battled bravely for the Divas but they couldn’t close the gap.
Boys
Red Devils 6
Gingers of Lucan 4
In the battle of the “redsers” , the Devils just about scraped through in a tense and high quality final.
Kingsley, Sean Conroy and Mark Gormley tried everything to win the title but some lovely touches from Danesi and the class of Cian Buckley was just too much for the Gingers.
79 boys and girls took part in this year’s basketball leagues, which were a great success. The games ran off like clockwork and a special word of thanks to the official timekeepers Philip Kane and Charlie Keher and to Sarah Cramp who helped out in the earlier rounds.
Medals for winners and runners up will be presented at this week’s senior assembly.
There will also be 4 “player of the league” presentations- to a boy and a girl in 5th and 6th class.
