Scoil Mhuire Newsletter, November 2014

November has been a very busy month in Scoil Mhuire. The first half of the month was Science themed. Just after Hallowe’en 4th, 5th and 6th classes were treated to workshops based around circuits and electricity in the hall, and then for Science Week from 10th to the 14th every class experienced experiments set up by Ms Reilly and Mr Roche. And 4th and 5th class slipped away to Lucan Library for a robotics workshop.

We had our Parent Teacher Meetings during the 3rd week, and on the Friday of that week our Parents’ Association hosted a very successful Table Quiz in the Lord Lucan. There was also parental involvement in the annual Shoebox Appeal, where a record 86 shoeboxes were packed with Christmas presents for less fortunate children in poorer countries.

Throughout the month the 3rd/4th indoor hurling and camogie leagues have been ongoing. Report on the champions next month. And on a more sedate level we have seen twenty eight children from 6th class take part in the inaugural Scoil Mhuire Countdown Challenge which began last week. The competition has now reached the quarter final stage. It is based on the very successful and very popular Channel 4 series and the final is scheduled to take place during the first week of December.

On Wednesday of this week we had COW day. No, not bovine, but bicycle. In our quest for another Green Flag Ms Ryan has organised a “Cycle on Wednesday”. Check out the next issue of The Lucan Echo for pictures.

Our annual carol service will be at 9.30am on Friday, Dec 19th. Parents are welcome, but space will be limited, and no buggies are allowed. The schedule of Christmas class plays is on the website, www.scoilmhuire.ie
