On Friday last, 35 grandparents of 5th class children visited Scoil Mhuire to celebrate Grandparents’ Day. The boys and girls from Ms Dillon’s and Mr Kirwan’s classes entertained their grandparents with songs, poems and even some raps. The oldest grandparent there was Mr John Gormley, grandfather of Killian and Kevin. Mr Gormley, who is 95 had travelled up from Tullamore on Friday morning by train, unaccompanied. He was born on the day in 1921, when Michael Collins signed the Anglo-Irish Treaty, after the War of Independence. Laoibhse Bould’s grandad made the journey from the South of England. We hope all the grandparents had a good time and we thank them for coming.
